Slamdance Film Festival: Episodes Recap
Episodes is a category of short films available for viewing at the Slamdance Film Festival and also online.
The collection of films as a whole is quite charming. The best films of the group serve as a complete story arch, which are satisfying in their own right, but prompt a larger story.
“Lucy and Sara” directed by Susan Park was a clear favorite of the group. A dark and comedic short, centered around two sisters in the wake of their fathers death. While it has the shortest run time of the films in its category, it is also the most neatly composed. It finds its footing early through concise camera work and dialogue. It succeeds in creating a unique comedic atmosphere alongside its extraordinarily dark themes. It is a film which feels at home at Slamdance and exemplifies the value of seeking out independent storytellers.
