The Art Castle... What is it??
Coming soon... KUAA's new home.
The Utah Arts Alliance preserved and is renovating the historic 124 year old 15th Ward chapel located at 915 W 110 S. The goal is to create a community gathering space, an arts and creative space, music venue, and new home to KUAA 99.9FM.
What is the Art Castle? Well... The historic building is a beautiful old castle-like chapel with Victorian Gothic-like architecture. It was built in 1900, and sold in the late 1960's. For the last 40 plus years, the building has been used by LA East Studios, a recording studio owned by Universal Music / Warner Brothers.
It has been used to record music for hundreds of films, including the Lion King, Toy Story, Jurassic Park and Wonder Woman, just to name a few! Artists such as B.B. King, Elton John, Carol King, Dolly Parton, and Eminem are just a few that have recorded there.
The building was closed in 2020 due to the pandemic and in January 2021 The Utah Arts Alliance bought the building to create what we are calling The Art Castle!
The Utah Arts Alliance will use the building as a community gathering space for presenting performances, live music, film screenings, and the broadcast home of KUAA 99.9FM, plus much more. The Art Castle will have an outdoor sculpture garden, open to the public to enjoy installations and outdoor events - an outdoor stage with seating is part of the plan.
Successful renovations will unlock numerous benefits for our community and for the first time since the late 1960's, the Art Castle will again be open to the public, offering a unique space for cultural events, concerts, and community activities!
